Wipro to return to campuses in H2 as Tech Mahindra adds 5,446 staff

The July–September 2026 quarter (Q2 FY27) went very differently for Wipro and Tech Mahindra. Here is what happened and what it means if you are hoping for an offer from either company.

Wipro: fewer people now, campus hiring next

Wipro's headcount fell by 6,716 to 2,36,328, its biggest quarterly drop in recent quarters. In the previous quarter it had added 888 people.
Attrition stayed at 13.8%.
Chief HR Officer Saurabh Govil said Wipro does not usually hire from campuses in the first half of the year, and that the company is going back to campuses in the second half (October–March).
He said hiring will follow client demand and focus on specific skills, and that productivity gains from AI are part of why headcount moved the way it did.

Earlier this year Wipro said it had no fixed fresher hiring target for FY27. So the number of campus offers will depend on demand, not on a promised figure. The effect of the second-half hiring should show up when Wipro reports its October–December results in January 2027.

Tech Mahindra: growing again

Tech Mahindra ended September with 1,52,206 employees, after adding 5,446 people in the quarter.
Its IT attrition fell to 11.7%, among the lowest of the big IT firms.
New deal wins rose to about $1 billion, 25% more than a year ago. New deals usually lead to more hiring in the following quarters.
CEO Mohit Joshi said the company is hiring from IITs, NITs and universities abroad to raise productivity.

What this means for freshers

If you are in the 2026 or 2027 batch, keep an eye on Wipro's official careers page from now until March, since that is when its campus and off-campus hiring usually happens.
Tech Mahindra's growth and strong deal wins are a good sign for entry-level openings in the coming months.
Skills matter more than ever. Both companies say AI is changing how many people they need. Freshers who can show real projects in Java, cloud, data or AI tools have an edge.
